Science Technician

Scale 4 (pts 7-10). Actual salary range £12,673-£13,227 for 18 hours per week, term-time only (38 weeks) plus one day Staff Training

To support the delivery of high-quality practical science education we are seeking a Science Technician. This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful and supportive science faculty within a thriving secondary school community.

About the Role

Working closely with the Senior Science Technician and teaching staff, you will play a key role in preparing equipment, materials and resources for practical science lessons across Key Stages 3–5. You will help ensure laboratories are well organised, safe and fully equipped for engaging practical learning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and setting up laboratory equipment, chemicals and materials for lessons and practical experiments
  • Assembling resources for GCSE and A-level practicals
  • Maintaining laboratories, apparatus and preparation areas in a safe and orderly condition
  • Ensuring chemicals are stored and disposed of safely in line with COSHH and CLEAPSS guidance
  • Supporting teachers with specialist equipment, including data logging technology
  • Carrying out routine checks of laboratory services and reporting any issues
  • Supporting departmental displays, open evenings and events such as Science Week

You will also help maintain resources, assist with minor equipment repairs and contribute to the smooth running of the science department.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a good general education, including GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • Has experience working in a scientific or laboratory environment (school experience desirable)
  • Ideally has A-level science or equivalent knowledge
  • Understands safe laboratory practice and COSHH regulations
  • Is organised, practical and able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Communicates well with staff and students and enjoys working in a busy school environment

Training will be provided for the right candidate.
