Year 13 students secured a very exciting opportunity at the end of September to take part in a beginner gliding experience in partnership with Booker Gliding Club based in High Wycombe.
Students took to the skies for an exhilarating flight in a two-seater dual control glider with a qualified instructor, who is also a member of the site team here at Bishop Ramsey. Whilst in the air students had the opportunity to take over the controls themselves to fully experience the sport of gliding.
Two of the students shared their experience of the day with us:
‘Being on a live airfield for the first time was so thrilling, and I loved watching the nearby helicopters take off! When it came down to my actual turn, I got a bit nervous, but once I was with John, all my nerves had gone away. John was the best instructor I could’ve asked for – he was kind, and patient. His clear instructions enabled me to control the glider confidently, with no prior experience. I had the best time with the Booker Gliding Club and will definitely be going again soon. Thank you so much for this opportunity! It helped me rediscover my passion for aviation and has convinced me to resume looking at a career as a pilot!" Angelie
"Gliding was an exhilarating experience in many ways. Purely being able to control the aircraft myself at heights of 2000ft was amazing." Ted.
