    • Year 7 and 8 Chaplaincy Trips to Woodrow High House

      Published 18/10/21

Over four days in September and October,  we took Year 7 and 8 students on day trips to Woodrow High House in Amersham. The activities that they took part in included team building, individual challenges, chapel sessions in the middle of the day and each day finished with a campfire.

The students embraced the day–putting themselves out of their comfort zone through doing High Ropes or learning new skills in the bushcraft sessions. They also had to work together as teams on the low ropes and had to use superb communication skills on the Nightline – where they had to navigate an obstacle course whilst blindfolded.

The day was loved by all, and many students asked if they would have the opportunity to go again! Plans are already underway to take students next year.

    • Canterbury Choir at AASSH Conference

      Published 18/10/21

Our Canterbury Choir and Worship and Wellbeing Reps were invited to lead and sing at  the morning service at the Anglican Academy and Secondary Schools Heads conference on Thursday 14th October at The Royal Foundation of St Katharine, Limehouse.

The service was entirely student led and included the choir leading the worship in singing Taize chants, Dear Lord and Father of Mankind, and two students leading a reflection on where we hear God by Godfrey Rust called ‘Wordsout’.

Headteachers from different parts of the UK were left with tears in their eyes by the service, and Rev Susy, who returned to be part of a panel on chaplaincy on the Friday, heard nothing but praise for how well they did.

Canterbury Choir is an auditioned choir for all year groups and meet on Monday and Thursday morning during form time. The choir are involved in leading the sung worship at various occasions during the year and in year group Eucharists. Please see Mrs Bowden if you are interested in finding out more.

    • Year 11 Geography Field Trip to Epping Forest

      Published 11/10/21

On Wednesday 6th October, Year 11 geography students were finally able to get out into the field and study the Debden Brook in Epping Forest. This trip had originally been planned for June, but Covid meant that the trip had to be rescheduled. Luckily, we were blessed with good weather.

Students identified the source of a river and discussed how rivers form. The groups then travelled to sites downstream and got into the river to measure how width, depth, velocity and sediment size and shape changed along the course of a river. Potential flood risk at each site was also assessed.

Congratulation to all students who attended this trip who demonstrated that they can effectively apply their geographical knowledge to real places and this fieldwork day will help prepare for the summer examinations.

    • Hillingdon SCITT and Bishop Ramsey’s Macmillan Charity Cake/Bake Sale

      Published 01/10/21

Hillingdon SCITT (Bishop Ramsey’s School Centred Initial Teacher Training Provider), along with some Year 13 Students decided to host two Macmillan Cancer Support Cake mornings on Friday 24th September and Monday 27th September. As a result of the pandemic, we were aware that charities may not have received as many donations as they usually would have, therefore in true SCITT style, we wanted to "make a difference".

We aspired to raise £1000 over the two mornings. However, with the generosity shown by our pupils, their parents, staff and Hillingdon SCITT Trainees we exceeded this target by far, resulting in raising £1750. We are very grateful for all the contributions to enable this event to have been so successful.

Mr Wilcock, our former Executive Head returned for the evening as the Guest Speaker, presenting prizes to more than 50  students who have demonstrated excellence, strength and compassion.
