Bishop Ramsey school commemorated Armistice Day in a short socially distanced Act of Remembrance incorporating the annual 2 minutes silence.

Representatives of the staff including Mr Wilcock, Mr Britton and Year 7 students met at the schools Flagpole shortly before 11.00am. Everyone stood in an arc distanced from each other. The schools Chaplain,  Revd Dand led prayers and the citation ‘They Shall not grow old’ before 'The Last Post' was played by James Orriss and the whole school went silent to honour the fallen and all those involved in war and conflict. It was a very poignant moment especially in this difficult year when the world is experiencing a different type of ‘war’.  At the end of the silence 'Reveille' was played.

This was followed by the Act of Commitment and ended with the Blessing and Dismissal.

Those present then paraded to the Remembrance Garden which was created in 2018 and contains the remembrance wildflowers of Great Britain, France, Belgium and Germany which flower through the year. Miss Neal led students in the laying of a poppy wreath and two small wooden crosses, followed by a moment of silence. Year 7 have also made poppies which have been put in the garden.

Due to current restrictions commemoration in school was different to other years, there were fewer at the flagpole and garden but the whole school were still able to remember in silence and are able to visit the small garden to pay their respects. Next year let us hope our remembrance will be able to return to normal and the nation will be able to commemorate together again.
