The Bishop Ramsey Music Department hosted a Spring Concert on Thursday 8th March 2018. A wide variety of musical items from Baroque, Classical, Romantic to the Musical Theatre and Jazz were performed by the students at Bishop Ramsey.
It was delightful to see the commitment of many students involved from Years 7 to 13. It was ecstatic to witness the audience of 165 people in our main hall.
Andrei Anghel opened the concert whilst performing a demanding piece Ballade No 1 Op.23 by Chopin. His virtuoso performance mesmerised and enchained the audience. Bishop Ramsey School Orchestra energetically performed a mystical tune “In the Hall of the Mountain King”, “Spring” by Vivaldi and “Minuet from the Surprise Symphony”. The audience were tapping their hands and feet whilst Jazz Band performed a very well known tune by P. Desmond “Take 5”. The Junior Choir of 50 youngsters powerfully sang in harmony “Your Song”. The senior choir touched the audience hearts with lyrical and poignant song “Tell Me That’s Not True” from the musical “Blood Brothers”. The Canterbury Form Choir powerfully belted out and sang in great harmony the song ““Castle on the Hill/Mr Brightside. Lianne Ho beautifully performed a flute solo. Junior Rock Band delivered two contemporary performances. A comical bassoon solo piece performed by Y13 Sophie Philbrook was well received by the audience. Andrei Anghel and Aleksandr Ostyak flawlessly played violin duet by W.A Mozart. A delightful and sophisticated drum solo was performed by Year 12 student, Ruben Logan. Student Concert Band delivered two exciting pieces, Musical Theatre Club and the School Production Cast nailed their performances.
I hope parents, members of staff and mostly important, the students who performed on the evening enjoyed the results of their hard work!
It was a memorable night and I look forward preparing the next concert!
