Key Stage 5

AQA A level Politics 7152

Politics is the study of the exercise of power. This means that it has a huge impact on your daily life.  Most of the key issues in our society such as crime, poverty and the environmen,  are political. The study of Politics is an exciting intellectual challenge where students can deploy a variety of skills: debate and discussion, the ability to create an effective argument and analyse information to make valid judgments, to name but a few.

At Bishop Ramsey we follow the AQA specification which covers 3 papers: British Government and Politics, American Government and Politics (including comparative back to the UK) and Political ideology (Conservatism, Socialism, Liberalism and Feminism).

Extra-Curricular

The Politics Department has a strong commitment to learning beyond the classroom.  There is a thriving debate club at Bishop Ramsey who meet weekly (the 'Social Activists') and have entered numerous debating or speech writing competitions.

Students have the opportunity to visit Parliament and also hear leading politicians speak at a student conference. We also run ‘mock’ elections to coincide with general elections.
