Leisure and Tourism

Leisure and Tourism is an option choice at KS4 which follows the Edexcel specification. The course is taught over 2 years and is assessed at the end of Year 11 with a one hour Unit 1 exam and a piece of Controlled Assessment for Unit 2. It is a single award.
The topics include:
- The nature of the leisure and tourism industry
- Introduction to business operations in leisure and tourism
- Factors influencing customer choice
- Introduction to destinations, impacts and sustainability
The Controlled Assessment piece- Students select an organisation involved in the Leisure and Tourism industry to produce an in depth piece of work. The exam board provide a list of areas that need to be covered for this work. All work is completed in Year 11 in school and is monitored and assessed internally before being moderated by the exam board. All work is completed with guidance from the teacher and must remain in school.
The course is delivered online via the Vision 2 Learn for Schools virtual learning site. Students are provided with log in details and they can access the site from school or home using these. They are provided with their own areas in which to save and store their work and map their progress.
